Even composed of only tulips, the National Botanical Tulips Collection, nevertheless, includes plants of an amazing diversity. Let's see for instance the geographical origin of these plants. If some of them originate in France (T. didieri, T. australis) some others are from Greece (T. saxatilis) or from Central Asia (T. tubergiana). And if some are true wild species (T. butlkovii, T. aucheriana), some have been grown by breeders (T. batalinii ‘Red Hunter’, T. hageri ‘Piccolo’). Finally, in spite of the fact that T. acuminata is listed as a botanical tulip it has never been observed in the wild and for seems to originates from Turkey, more precisely from the gorgeous sultan’s gardens.
