A new tulip species has been just described : Tulipa albanica Kit Tand & Shuka.

Originating to North-East Albania (Kulès district), this species has been discovered by Lulezim Zuka on May 22nd, 2008. After two years of close observation which revealed thousands of plants spread over the surrounding rocky slopes, this species, featured by its ondulated foliage and red or yellow flower, has been finally described in 2010 by Kit Tan and Lulezim Shuka.

Let's remind that the only one know before in Albania was Tulipa griesebachiana (syn : Tulipa australis).
